I picked up this book quite some time ago when it was on special offer and started reading it at the weekend expecting from the title it would be a romance. Well it is a love story but a very unusual and original story. The author has quite some imagination! This is escapist fun featuring plenty of action as the love story transcends time and with each reincarnation of the characters, they are repeatedly faced with danger. The old house of the title hides loads of secrets. Whether a fan of romance, paranormal or just a good adventure, there is definitely something in this book for everyone.

The Old House, an Everlasting Love Story, sounds like it might be something you would see on HGTV. Don’t be fooled by the title. This book is the longest love affair the world has ever known. It is also a story with plenty of action and some spine tingles thrown in for good measure. The old house is merely a prop upon which the action takes place. It is a conduit to other times and other places that the characters can frequent through its many doors. The story starts simple enough. The Carter family has been around forever. The present-day Carter stands to inherit 95 billion dollars if he stays in the house for two years. Did I say simple? Well, excuse me. Given the exceptional writing and plot development, Karl Morgan made the story line seem feasible. That is just the beginning. Throw in a few Carters, some prehistoric animals, Roman legions, and get this, Jack the Ripper and you’ve got a raucous ride through a literary masterpiece. The historical research was above reproach and the various twists of the story well thought out. It was very hard to put this book down, but when it had to happen, I couldn’t wait to get back to it.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a complex story well told regardless of genre preferences. There is something for everyone in this story.

Simon Carter along with the rest of his family mourn the loss of his grandfather.

After the service and burial Simon has coffee with his father and sister where he learns about his great grandfather and his life long love for a woman called Cassandra. He has been sheltered from this story most of his life and is shocked by what he learns. Simon learns he is the reincarnation of his great grandfather Simon Peter Carter.

At the will reading Simon finds he has inherited the old family house that had belonged to his great grandfather. Along with it comes a large sum of money that he will inherit when he turns twenty-five. One condition is that he has to live in the old house for a year. His uncles plan on contesting the will and figure the place should be bulldozed.

There has been a love between Simon, senior and Cassandra for generations. They keep finding each other in each generation but their lives are threatened in each. They have never had a peaceful love but their love has endured over the centuries. Simon Carter can't make head or tail of all the things he has learned which leaves him feeling puzzled.

When Simon steps inside the house the first time with his father and uncles he was surprised by the walls that have divided the house into small rooms that are sparsely furnished. His uncles keep saying that the old house should be knocked down as it is worthless but the property is worth millions. Right from the start Simon is opposed from every direction.

Simon is determined to stay in the house for the year and sets out to restore the house to its original beauty. His father has comfortable furniture delivered to the house which at least will make his stay more comfortable. Simon starts having dreams about his great grandfather and his one true love Cassandra but in his last life Great grandfather Simon married someone called Irene who was young Simons great grandmother. As soon as walls come down dangers are exposed. An unknown entity threatens Hannah, Simons girlfriend. Why would her life be threatened when her name wasn't Cassandra?

As more walls are knocked down Simon learns more about his great grandfather's past. More dangers are exposed each time. In his dreams he talks to his great grandfather who instructs him how to knock down the walls and in which order. When these dreams fade the temptation to knock down other walls temp them putting their lives in grave danger.

This is an intense love story that has lasted through centuries despite the many dangers in each time period. The story is fast paced and keeps you wanting to turn the page to see what happens next. This is Rave Review Book Club book. This is a must read for anyone who likes fast paced adventure and love stories. The title and cover suit the book. The book description is well done and made me want to read the book.

I have had this book on my Kindle for the longest time. Finally, I decided to read it and, what a story!

This is the story about a family so rich they could own the whole world. The problem, though, is that the name Simone Carter and Cassandra seemed to continually re-incarnate through the centuries. Similarly, the one known as Jack the Ripper, also, seemed to eternally hound them to kill them. And many times, through their century’s saga, he succeeded.

The intrigue came with the old house which the present-day Simone inherited from his great grandfather. This house seemed to be a portal to the present, past and future worlds. It was never clear where a door in this house could lead someone. It could be to France, England, United States of America, or even in ancient Judea. Raymond, father of the present-day Simone and Rachel, the sister passionately protected Simone who stood to inherit this great wealth which his great grandfather had willed to him.

His uncles, Walt and Alex, but especially Walt, wanted Simone, his father and sister dead so that only he would inherit the whole lot. The movement in and out of doors in the old house and happenings, almost reached the point of ridiculous. At a point, I wondered whether this story was meant for children or adults because some of the happenings were not relatable at all. My conclusion is that this is not a well told story, I found a lot of errors in it. This could have been a great story if it was better organized.

London, England (1880). Governor Simon “Sy” Peter Carter (27, Army, Grandfather), & Cassandra “Cassie” (French farm girl), were walking along together enjoying the evening after dinner/theater.
Along came Jack the Ripper & ended Simon’s life.
Then he decided to kill her also.
WWII Cassandra was shot by German soldiers.
Fast forward many many yrs.

Dan Thompson (chauffeur, security) gave Simon “Sy” Peter Carter a ride.
Uncle Walter “Walt” Carter (brother, Carter Industries) & Uncle Alexander “Alex” Carter (brother, Carter Investments), were explaining to Simon on how the Carter hierarchy works.
Raymond “Ray” S. Carter (father, President/CEO, Executive Director, Chairman, Carter Global Enterprises (55%), SPC Foundation, SPC Charitable Trust), Karl James (CFO, CGE), Christine “Chris” Carter (Ray’s ex-wife, Executive Director of the Foundation), Aunt Carol (Executive Director of the Trust), Paul Rourke (security) & Tony (security).
Ray & Simon were staying at the ancient Golden Hill manor.
Poppy (Ray’s grandfather, Simon’s great grandfather) believed in reincarnation.
Ray went on with the story if Simon lived in this place for 2 yrs., he will get the house & inherit the Carter Global Enterprises ($98 billion).

Rachel Carter (daughter/sister), & Hannah Stowe (Racheal’s former college roommate), were staying there.
After a while there were lots of bizarre & strange nosies in the house & walls.
A construction crew came in & had broken some of the walls down in the bath & living room.
Stewart “Stu” Higgins shared with Simon all he knew about the Carter’s legacy.
What did Chris reveal to Simon?

Who did Simon & Hannah encounter?
What more secrets of the old house will the group encounter?
Hannah was off to Des Moines, IA. (1015 Robin Road), to see her parents: Brian Carter (father), & Alison Carter (mother).
Brian is in the hospital after surviving a knife wound.
Dr. Carson informed the family to come back tomorrow to see him.

How many more times might Jack the Ripper return to haunt the Carter family?
What would happen to Uncle Walt?

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written historical fiction paranormal book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great paranormal movie, animated cartoon, or better yet a mini TV series. The ending didn’t make a whole lot of sense but I still liked it so I will rate it at make 5 stars.
