The Clerk is the custodian of records for Socorro County. This office keeps all official public records of the County, such as resolutions, ordinances, deeds, mortgages and marriage licenses for marriages within Socorro County.

The Clerk is also the chief administrator of elections. The Clerk's office receives nominations and petitions of candidates related to elections. In addition, the office supervises and prepares ballots and voting machines and trains poll workers.

The clerk's office also supports the Office of the Probate Judge in handling informal proceedings.

Anyone seeking an absentee ballot may call our office at 575-835-0423, or visit the Secretary of State website (sos.state.nm.us) and (nmvote.org) to request one.

Please do not use nmvotes.com or nmvotes.org for voter information. NOTE: these have an s after vote. If in doubt, call us.

Young Voters

The U.S. Census Bureau found that only 45% of eligible voters aged 18-29 cast a ballot in the 2012 presidential election, that’s an almost 30% smaller turnout than those over the age of 65. One driving factor behind this low turnout is that millennials are moving around the country at greater rates than ever before, switching from state to state for college and jobs. There will be 2 VCCs in Socorro County which will be located within Socorro City Limits and 6 VCC’s in the County. Any person registered at any of these precincts may vote a regular ballot at any one of these 8 locations.
