Legendary Overclocker KINGPIN Leaves EVGA and Joins PNY to Develop Next-Generation GPUs for Extreme OC (1)

Legendary overclocker Vince Lucido, aka KINGPIN, has reportedly partnered with PNY to develop next-generation GPUs for extreme overclocking. KINGPIN, known for his unparalleled expertise in pushing hardware to its limits, revealed the partnership during a recent interview with Gamers Nexus at Computex 2024. The move comes as welcome news to enthusiasts who have been eagerly awaiting KINGPIN's next venture since EVGA's departure left a noticeable gap in the high-end GPU segment. Previously, he was the leading engineer of EVGA's high-end KINGPIN designs aimed at pushing the GPU to its limits. However, since EVGA decided to leave the GPU business, KINGPIN was looking for a new company to work on the next-generation GPU designs.

This time, the company of choice for KINGPIN is now PNY. While he has been in contact with many companies like GALAX and ASUS, he claims that it would be very crowded to work there as there are "too many cooks in the kitchen" with these companies already having in-house overclockers. He has also been talking with MSI, but the company wasn't interested in making GPUs for extreme overclocking. However, PNY has been very interested in shaking up the high-end GPU market. KINGPIN claims that there is a massive hole in the high-end GPU market, and he hopes to fill it with a collaboration with PNY. Next-generation GPU designs assisted by KINGPIN will reportedly arrive for the upcoming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series of GPUs when we hope to see the legacy EVGA left to continue at PNY.

Below, you can see the full video interview by Gamers Nexus.

I hope Kingpin will find a new home with PNY because that's gonna be different and hopefully good, and do not think it's gonna be the "Quadro" team that would be too stock for him

Let hope they can make XOC version at launch and not after a year when all the hype died already

That might be difficult if NvGreedia don't want like a 5080 or 5090 to ruin their Titan sells

ALL the XOC Radeon Cards have died..... Asus Ares, Sapphire Toxic, MSI lightning.....

I really wish I could have gotten a Lightning 290X but didn't want to wait got the Sapphire Vapor X which was fine....

You don't see as many on the Nvidia side either though.... Most cards have zero headroom or at best 5% these days so no point. The last one I owned was a Kingpin 980ti probably should have kept it but I used it to get a free 1080 with EVGAs step up program.

It's a good thing that last Titan was released 6 years ago, then.

Honestly not in a rush, they can take their time... I'd rather keep my Ada card until the Blackwell Refresh cycle and get one of those than buy at launch (more for less).

With AI going stupid, I wouldn't be surprised if they bring it back as the only semi fully unlocked Blackwell gaming gpu and charged 3k for it. Give it double the vram of the 5090.....

And obtainable only to the richest of people in the US, Canada and Western EU

Bloody how it is related to overclocking sport? Basically what Kingpin cards are? Being a fanboy is your choice, but at least be reasonable about things what's what. He basically does make drag racing products, it is about fun and extreme, not just being green or red. Or you haven't made vodka candies while doing LN2?

Gainsward and pny are my favorite, go-to brand, if I cannot get a FE card.

Lowest price, nominal stock performance, simple design

empirically speaking, never had coil whine and they are relatively silent and cool.

Now, given the performance behind a 4080/4090 and the very poor yield of overclocking on modern GPU, I’m not really interested in OC card but if the work here can improve the PCBs, mosfets,..power delivery circuits, I won’t complai, evga kingpin were well regarded I think

Extreme overclocking are meant to break world records, which you are not going to achieve with slow GPUs anyways.
Do you see anyone making XOC version of 4060 or 7600? Those GPU will save lots of money on LN2

With overclocking "potential" of GPUs tending getting lower and lower, good luck with enthusiast priced/overpiced model letting you squeeze 4% more than from budget ones. On the other hand not only gain, but oc process itself is joy for enthusiasts and I think that every brand should have in offer such product. I mean state of the art model, simply the best they can deliver in every aspect like build quality, cooler, so also overclocking. One to compete with usually overally the best Strix. Not being always somehow worse like rivals' high end in type of Aorus or Suprim, not even counting others. It seems quite sensible product - high price, so margin, but also for client wanting the best or uncompromised in whatever regards.

Please EVGA, do what XFX did and move to the AMD camp! <3

Agree. Though VRAM OC is still a thing and it can bring hella lot of a boost.

But at the end of the day... it will still matter about your mate at the company getting you the golden sample. And Kingpin cards certainly are next closest thing having such friend...

It seems people seriously lack understanding what's OC contest... and still fanboy, just as in drag or in any technical sport, people don't use fastest cars, but the ones they have fun and it matters most. Each class has their own difficulties and overcoming them makes the sportsmanship.

I wonder if he will design a new PCB board for the cards carrying his name, considering the minimal overclocking ability of current cards.
Better Vram and power circuitry would be nice and would justify the extra cost.

If you have so much money to burn, why not buy the fastest GPU first before making modification to make it even faster

I can not degrade that much. I am not sure why are you even trying to make a joke out of yourself.

It is ~1-3€ per kg. For 10K you can buy a ln2 generator.
